Radevormwald is the highest town in the Bergisches Land, but a significant part of its history lies dormant in the valley of the Wupper. From the "town on the heights", the Tuchmacherweg trail leads past the former river beach in the Uelfetal valley into the valley that the Wupper has carved deep into the mountains here.
The power of the river played a key role in the industrialization of the region. Traces of the cloth industry, which replaced the iron industry in the 19th century, can be discovered in Dahlerau. A small town developed around the textile company "Johann Wülfing & Sohn" with its own railroad station, bathing establishment, stores and workers' housing estates. A museum offers insights into the history of the former "textile town", where a large number of smaller companies have settled since the textile factory closed in 1996.
Railroad history in a deep sleep can be discovered at Dahlhausen railroad station: Old locomotives, wagons and construction vehicles are being restored here by an association that is also reviving the tracks of the disused Wuppertalbahn with bicycle trolleys. A few kilometers further on, the old tracks end since the dam for the Wupper reservoir was built in the 1980s. A regular bus service (line 671) runs from the edge of the dam back to the city center.
There are a total of five information boards along the way.

Directions
The "Tuchmacherweg" is a long-distance hiking trail that runs along forest and farm tracks and low-traffic roads. From the town hall of Radevormwald, the trail descends into the Uelfetal valley and continues through forests and meadows to the lowest point of the trail at Dahlerau on the Wupper. The trail now follows the old railroad tracks on Wülfingstraße to Dahlhausen station.
From there, the route follows forest paths, narrow trails and low-traffic roads along the Wupper to the dam of the Wuppertal Reservoir. At the end of the "Tuchmacherweg" (from the edge of the dam crest), the 671 bus takes you back to the city center. Alternatively, you can follow the "Wald-Wasser-Wolle-Weg" (path sign: Ra in a circle), which takes you a further 9 kilometers back to the town hall.
