Relaxed cycling on flat routes takes you around the Stemweder Berg. Varied landscapes lead through the "Green Crown" of north-west Germany to Lake Dümmer.

The Stemweder Berg has an altitude of 178 m, but it is easy to get around without any significant inclines. Shady parkland alternates with the sunlit expanse of the North German Plain.

Directions

From the starting point in Niedermehnen, the route leads along the eastern side of the Stemweder Berg through the villages of Wehdem and Oppendorf across the Westphalian border into neighboring Lower Saxony to Lake Dümmer. The lake is a breeding and resting place for many bird species, with thousands of cranes resting in the region in spring and fall.

The second half of the tour leads through Hüde and Lemförde on the north and west sides of the mountain back to Dielingen in Westphalia. You now return to the starting point via Drohne, Arrenkamp and Westrup on farm roads with little traffic.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

The region around the Stemweder Berg is known as an asparagus-growing area. Several farms offer asparagus direct from the farm. The local gastronomy invites you to an asparagus buffet and other delicacies. Every year on May 1st, the asparagus market takes place in Meiers Deele in Oppenwehe.

Safety guidelines

Always pay attention to the road safety of your bike. For your own safety and as a role model, we recommend wearing a bicycle helmet.
