Stop at Ottendorfer Hütte
A fire roars in the stove, snow flurries outside the windows and a large portion of "macaroni à la hut" steams on the table: this is how cosy winter hiking days could end at the Ottendorfer Hütte! For 20 years, the alpine hut-style hostel and restaurant on the edge of the Saxon Switzerland National Park has served as a cosy base camp for climbers, hikers and adventurers. There is a small but fine restaurant serving Saxon classics and a rustic dormitory and holiday home for overnight guests.

Nestled in the dreamy village of Ottendorf, not far from Sebnitz and just before the Czech border, the hut transports you to a particularly peaceful part of the national park region. There are many exciting options for extended winter hikes to choose from: heading north-east through open countryside via Hertigswalde to Sebnitz or to the Tanzplan viewing tower in Bohemian Switzerland. In the south, viewpoints such as the "Ottendorfer Raubschloss" or Kleinsteinhöhle cave as well as the romantic Kirnitzschtal valley with the famous "Kuhstall" rock gate in winter offer a variety of national park tours.

A winter highlight at the Ottendorfer Hütte is the "Culture in the Hut" series of events with readings, concerts and, above all, travel lectures. These are often accompanied by typical local dishes. The evenings, which usually take place on Fridays, are a great way to start a weekend break in Saxon Switzerland. After the event, you can spend the night in the hut and set off on a tour through the winter landscape the next day after a good breakfast.
