What a location! With its imposing rock faces and numerous picturesque river meanders, the Polenztal is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in Saxon Switzerland. Even Caspar David Friedrich sketched here. The famous Elbe Sandstone Mountains Painters' Trail runs right through it. At the sunniest point of the valley, directly at the turn-off into the wild rocky world of the Schindergraben, there is an inn: the Pension und Gaststätte Polenztal.
The house offers an excellent starting point for hikes through the valley, whose rocks are often adorned with countless icicles in winter. A wide, well-maintained and mostly sunny hiking trail runs along the river. A classic tour leads to the famous Brandaussicht and back to the guesthouse via Hohnstein.
A little adventure is the ascent on a natural hiking trail through the Schindergraben past the picturesque ruins of a former bear kennel to Hohnstein. The path to the mysterious Gautschgrotte, where a huge ice column forms during long periods of frost, also leads through the Schindergraben.
A total of 27 cosy rooms are available for overnight guests at the Polenztal guesthouse and restaurant. Hearty, home-style cooking and refined Saxon hospitality in the midst of beautiful nature: that's what guests can look forward to at this family-run establishment. An insider tip for romantics!
