Directions

From Hohnstein, we descend to the Bärengarten. There we hike along the old remains of the wall on a forest hiking trail via the Halbenweg and the Räumichtweg towards the Brandaussicht. After a fantastic panoramic view from this "balcony of Saxon Switzerland" 170 meters above the Polenz Valley, we descend over 800 steps into the Tiefen Grund. After about 300 meters of road, the Malerweg trail leads right up the Dorfgrund to Waitzdorf. From the Waitzdorf circular trail, we follow the Mühlweg and reach the Kohlmühle via the Kohlichtgraben. The markings lead us into the Sebnitz valley to the mouth of the Schwarzbach. We now hike along the Mühlweg to the Altendorf stage destination and enjoy the view of the Schrammsteine from there.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

The Saxon Switzerland National Park Center in Bad Schandau is the visitor center of the protected area. How did the mysterious rocky world come into being? Which rare animals live here? How does the forest habitat work? The museum provides vivid information on these topics with numerous models suitable for families. The highlight is a multivision show in the movie theater with fantastic footage from the national park region.
