The history of the house dates back to the 1880s. It has been in the family ever since. Back then, it was run as a simple pub, where workers from the local coal mine would stop for a ‘Knubben’ schnapps on their way to or from work. After the world wars, under the management of Erika and Heinrich Wommer, the first hot meals were finally served to hungry walkers and day-trippers. During this period, Schüren developed more and more into a popular destination for day-trips.
Since 1991, this tradition has been continued and developed by the fourth generation, Traudel and Heinz-Jürgen Wommer.
Thanks to their home-style, fresh cuisine and the rustic, cosy atmosphere, the couple have since transformed the place from a typical day-trippers’ spot into a popular restaurant.
The cuisine is home-style. No haute cuisine, no frills – just honest, hearty, fresh and uncomplicated fare. Inspired by local cuisine and influences from around the world, we aim to carry on the tradition whilst keeping up with the times. Using high-quality, fresh produce, we create a hearty, delicious meal – freshly prepared!
