Ev.-ref. Kirche Alverdissen

The imposing west tower of the Protestant Reformed church in Alverdissen, whose origins date back to 1555, is a striking historical landmark in the Lippe region. The current structure of the church, designed by Ferdinand Ludwig August Merckel, was built in 1842/43. The simple rectangular design of the hall building was redesigned during extensive renovation work from 1951 to 1954: The original ogival windows gave way to high rectangular openings. A special art-historical feature can be found in the tower hall, where wall paintings from the late 16th century were discovered and conserved. On the tower side of the church, a mausoleum commemorates Countess Dorothea Amalie zu Lippe-Alverdissen, who had it built in the winter of 1723/24. It serves as the final resting place for Count Philipp-Ernst I and other members of the Lippe-Alverdissen line. The church offers not only an architectural experience, but also an insight into eventful periods of Lippe history.
