Since 2019, there has been a new geoportal of the "Porphyry Stone Kingdom in Saxony" geopark at Mügeln Kleinbahnhof.

The multimedia experience exhibition for adults and children to hear, see, marvel and play is all about kaolin, the most important raw material for porcelain production. VR goggles make kaolin mining comprehensible and a micro-telescope allows visitors to get to the bottom of the chemical element kaolinite.

The guided tours through the "Kaolin Experience" reveal everything about the geological formation of white clay, kaolin extraction in underground and open-cast mining, the history of Europe's largest narrow-gauge railroad network around Mügeln station and other industrial uses of the raw material.

Guided hikes along the "Path to Kaolin" and bicycle hire complete the offer. The Döllnitzbahn starts its themed excursions with diesel and steam locomotives at the Mügeln narrow-gauge railway station.

Openings

The Döllnitzbahn is open from 10:00 to 17:00 on steam train weekends.

Long Thursday with guided tours after work until 7 pm, on the 1st Thursday of each month (groups must register in advance).

Special opening hours during the winter, summer and fall vacations: Monday to Friday 10:00 - 17:00.

By public transport: From Leipzig main station, take the RE50 to the Oschatz stop. From Oschatz, Bahnhof (bus) take the 803 bus to Mügeln, Bahnhof (bus).

By car: Take the A14 to the Leisnig exit. Continue on the S31 to Bahnhofsstraße in Mügeln. There is a parking lot with two motorhome parking spaces and one bus parking space at the freight station.
