Haus im Schluh / Heinrich Vogeler Collection
In 1920, Martha Vogeler, the first wife of the artist Heinrich Vogeler, decided on a very courageous new path for the time: she bought a piece of land, had an old Lower Saxony house dismantled elsewhere and rebuilt it in the Schluh.
Together with her three daughters, she not only created a new home for herself - from the very beginning, her house in the Schluh was intended as a museum and memorial to Heinrich Vogeler.
A hand weaving mill and the sale of arts and crafts contributed to the existence and preservation of the property, in addition to the rental of guest rooms. Since then, Martha's House has been a meeting place - not only for artists.
To this day, the Haus im Schluh is a museum run by the fourth generation of the Vogeler family. The idyllically situated courtyard houses the extensive Heinrich Vogeler collection, a hand weaving mill, a guesthouse and a coffee garden. In 2012, the historical exhibition rooms were extended by a modern gallery annex, which offers space for changing exhibitions.
