Holy Trinity Church, Görlitz
The church underwent significant structural changes over time, including the construction of a larger choir and the extension of the building in the 15th and 16th centuries. The Reformation brought about changes that affected the livelihood of the Franciscan monks. Finally, the last monk handed over the monastery to the town council, which established the Gymnasium Augustum there in 1565, which is still run on the same site today with an unbroken school tradition. The Holy Trinity Church survived the Thirty Years' War and was renovated between 1713 and 1715. It was consecrated as the Church of the Holy Trinity and some works of art, including the 15th century Franciscan altar of the Virgin Mary, have been preserved to this day.
Further renovations were carried out in 1909/10, including colorful decorations. Despite these changes, the history and importance of the Franciscan monks in the Holy Trinity Church of Görlitz remains unforgotten. Some of the older paintings in the cloister can be clearly attributed to the Franciscans and date back to 1430/1440.
