His son Karl was born here on August 13, 1871. For over a decade, the first floor apartment was the center of action for German social democracy. The living room is now a memorial. The magazine "Volksstaat" was published here. A plaque on the house commemorates Karl Marx's visit in 1874.
Today, the house houses the editorial office of the newspaper "Leipzigs Neue" and the office of the city association DIE LINKE Leipzig. The house is open to all interested parties as a meeting place. The converted attic, the AG/IG room and the memorial can be used for events. The garden is also available when the weather is fine. The memorial on the ground floor is accessible during the opening hours of the office, guided tours for groups (including school classes) are possible by appointment. In the memorial, you can see Karl Liebknecht's original typewriter, among other things.
