St Erhard’s Church in Berga

Church
A church dedicated to the itinerant bishop, Erhard of Regensburg, is located at a picturesque hillside site.
The church fiefdom was awarded to the newly founded convent in Cronschwitz by two Reeves in 1310. Evidence of the first priest who worked there between 1313 and 1318 is still available. Johannes von Rudnitz was both the priest and the scribe of the Reeve of Gera in 1359/60. The Dean of Berga and priest Friedrich, together with priest Heinrich in Gera-Tinz, donated a series of books to Mildenfurth monastery in about 1400. The church building was completely renewed on the foundations of the old structure in 1822-1827.
