St. Godehardi-Kirchengemeinde

Church
St. Godehardi parish

A predecessor church, which was already mentioned in the 12th century, was located further down the main street. It was demolished in 1847 due to dilapidation. The decision was made to build a new church a little higher up because the location offered more space for a new church. The new church, which has been preserved in its original form to this day, was built between 1849 and 1853. The building was designed by the Kassel master builder Julius Eugen Ruhl in the historic round arch style .

In the 1970s, extensive renovation work was carried out, including a new roof. The interior was also repainted and the altar, lectern, altar cross and baptismal font were renewed. A further renovation phase followed in the 2000s. The roof areas needed to be structurally secured and the façade renovated. The interior was restored to its original color scheme from 1853. Both inside and out, the church still retains the architectural style of the time it was built.
