It replaced an older church from 1320, which was demolished in stages: the nave in 1908 and the old church tower in 1928. Today, a boulder commemorates the old church.
The nave with ribbed vaulting consists of a central nave and two side aisles. The church tower in the west has two stair towers, and the sacristy is attached in the south-east. There is a wide transept between the nave and choir with a polygonal apse. The interior has galleries all around, the furnishings are neo-Gothic and date from the time of construction: altar, pulpit, sculptures, murals. The organ with 17 stops was built by Furtwängler and Hammer and restored in 1995.
Four bells, cast in 1954 by the Rincker bell and art foundry, hang in the belfry. The Wittloh cemetery was laid out around the original church building as early as 1231. Today it is located next to the church.
