Innovative and witty, this audioguide tour in German or English takes you back 500 years to the Habsburg era, when they transformed Günzburg into "Little Vienna." The digital city tour, accessible via smartphone, starts at the castle, directly at the Tourist Information. From there, the route passes by Günzburg's landmark, the "Untere Tor," leading to the top sight, the Frauenkirche – a Rococo jewel and masterpiece by the famous architect Dominikus Zimmermann. Afterward, the tour takes you through picturesque alleys, over the Dossenberger Hof, and back to the starting point.
Along the way, you’ll discover what the Austrian double-headed eagle on the town hall’s entrance portal signifies, and why one of the most important minting facilities of the Habsburg Empire was established here. The mystery of the "Günzburger Fidla" is unraveled, and the lively hustle and bustle of the Günzburg marketplace in the 18th century comes to life. You’ll also learn why there was a special gate just for cows in Günzburg and why the "Saubartel" stands at Wätteplatz. All of this is explained in the voice of guide Siegfried Ranz, while his colleague Marion Schlaegel tells the story of the town watchman and the petty citizens.
With GPS, you’ll visit ten exciting listening points. At some of the points, images and additional information will appear on your phone screen. All "listening stations" are marked with signs. The smartphone uses GPS to navigate through the tour, automatically starting the audio at each listening point.

How do the free Bavarian-Swabian listening tours work?
For smartphone users, our free app is available for download: Simply search for "Bayerisch-Schwaben-Lauschtour" in the Apple App Store or Google Play, download, and off you go.
New: Listening tour experience for people with hearing and visual impairments
All Bavarian-Swabian listening tours are now available as so-called transcripts. This means the entire text from the audio content – including the narrations of the protagonists, details about the atmosphere, sounds, and effects – is available for reading. The app is also optimized for VoiceOver (iOS) and TalkBack (Android), which helps people with visual impairments navigate within the app.
