Directions

From the station, we cross to the other side of the street and use the bike path over the city bridge to cross the Elbe. Shortly after, we turn right and follow the Elbe cycle path to Stadt Wehlen. Just before the market square, we turn left uphill and shortly afterwards turn right into the Wehlener Grund. The path is part of the official national park bike routes. After a few relaxed kilometers on the Elbe cycle path, it's now a steady climb, with the surface being asphalted only at the beginning and then loose. After four kilometers of ascent, we reach Basteistraße and cycle to the Bastei Hotel, where we lock our bikes to walk to the Bastei Bridge and the various viewpoints to soak up the views.

After enough landscape and rock impressions, we get back on the bike. Those who want can take the same way back. We choose an alternative and cycle the entire Basteistraße to the large main parking lot. To avoid car traffic, we immediately leave the road here and cycle parallel via the Neuweg. We quickly pass through Lohmen and cycle along the sandy path and then Wehlener Straße to Dorf Wehlen. A detour to the Milchhof Fiedler offers the opportunity to stock up on supplies from the cheese and milk vending machines.

We leave the village again immediately and cycle through fields towards Herrenleite. Sandstone is quarried here. Especially in summer, the forest parallel to the Kratzbach is pleasantly cool. We pass the Herrenleite Narrow Gauge Railway Museum, which is open on Saturdays during the season. Via Mockethal, we roll back down to the Elbe and return to Pirna.
