The 22 km route starts at the Stadtkaje, but can also be started from any other point. Almost entirely on asphalt and paved paths, the route is also ideal for children and less experienced cyclists.
Course and places of interest (approx. 22 km):
Start at the quay. The waterfront promenade invites you to linger and offers a perfect view of the port facilities, the shipping traffic and Germany's longest river island, Harriersand. Ocean liners weighing several tons pass the Weser every day. On the dyke heading south, you pass 19th and 20th century captains' and shipowners' villas. This takes you to the Friedrichskirche. A simple clinker brick building on the outside, the interior is a space that tells of the formal power and sense of beauty of the 18th century. A walk through the cemetery is recommended: Visit the graves of the writer Georg von der Vring and Karl Rudolf Brommy, admiral of the first German fleet.
At the church, the route leads east towards Norderfeld. There you turn right, past old half-timbered houses and pretty farm gardens. A detour to the Melkhus is recommended here.
Turn right via Meyershof, through the vocational school center and along the Braker Sieltief to Golzwarden. Here you will find St. Bartholomew's Church, built in 1263 and originally equipped with an organ by Arp Schnitger. To the east is the Weser dyke, where you can let your gaze wander. The route then heads south along the dyke back into the city. The harbor impresses with its scenery. The quay with its large grain silos and cranes begins to the north of the town center. Seagoing vessels dock, load or unload their cargo. Along the harbor area you reach the lock and the picturesque inland port. Take a look to the side on the way to the quay. This is where the fisherman's house is located: built in 1731, it is the oldest house in Brake. Once you arrive at your destination, you are welcome to visit the shipping museum of the Oldenburg Lower Weser in the Telegrafen. Built in 1846, the brick building was constructed as an optical telegraph station for receiving and transmitting ship messages.
