In the forests around Rissenthal, there are more than ten gorges, also called ridges. The hike starts at the village square in Rissenthal. A few minutes later, you experience an extraordinary hollow way. Over washed-out colorful sandstone rocks with various shades, diverse root formations have developed.
At an old orchard meadow, a wooden gate is passed. The path section along orchard trees is replaced during the descent by a real "liana jungle."
On the descent above Rissenthal stands the memorial chapel from 1887 on Dungberg.
The forest behind the chapel is damp. In the gorge labyrinth, moss-covered rocks and fallen trees, also covered in moss, lie crisscross in the gorges. Barely has one gorge been crossed before a steep climb through the next gorge begins.
The highlight of the hike is the so-called "Great Ridge." The view from above into the steeply falling gorge is tremendous. Sun rays and wind create wonderful shadow plays on the colorful sandstone rocks. Moss-covered rocks and trees, ferns, and ivy complement the picture gallery of the "Great Ridge."
The gorge path was rated with 87 experience points by the German Hiking Institute.
