E-Bike Route Saar-Forest Encounter

The route begins at Saargarten in Beckingen. This park, located directly on the river, is part of the international project "Gardens without Borders" and is especially worth a visit for families due to its playground equipment and the adjacent footgolf course. From Beckingen, the route continues into the Haustadt valley with its wooded heights. At Hargarten, the path ascends the Merchingen muschelkalk plateau and then leads over hills and valleys to Losheim with its namesake reservoir. Numerous recreational opportunities by the water as well as the lake garden with bistro and mini-golf course invite a longer break here. A detour into the village allows a visit to the railway museum. Further on, the e-bike route passes through a longer forest section and reaches the Saar valley again at Mettlach. Here, the ride can be interrupted to visit the ceramic experience worlds and the factory outlet of Villeroy & Boch. Also worth seeing are the Holy Lutwinus' burial church and the Old Abbey with its old tower and park. The Mettlach Abbey Brewery invites you to stop for a drink. Excursion boats are ready for tours on the Saar riverbank.

The e-bike route now follows the Saar upstream and leads through the famous and impressive Saarschleife. Here, the Saarschleifenlodge and the Genuss-Station at the Welles ferry offer further culinary highlights of the Saarschleifenland. Through Dreisbach, the route continues along the Saar towards the Viez town of Merzig. The old town with its city park and St. Peter's church is also worth a stop, as is the marina with the leisure and health spa "DAS BAD" and brewery. Continuing along the Saar, the route crosses the river at the Rehlingen-Beckingen lock and leads a short stretch downstream back to the starting point at Beckingen’s Saargarten.
