Directions
After starting in Niederdollendorf, you first head straight ahead - always along the Rhine bank. The surface is as comfortable as the options for resting and dining. In the urban areas, charming tree avenues with lush promenades provide shade again and again. As soon as you spot the Rolandbogen on the opposite Rhine shore, it gets exciting for you. Where to cross the Rhine? Just after the Nonnewerth island, you reach the ferry dock. Rhine Ahoy! Now you ride on the left Rhine bank! A little tip: Without cash (coins), the crossing might not work out! (Cost approx. 1.50 to 2 euros). On the other side of the Rhine, you find out why it’s worth switching sides: in the postcard panorama with Drachenfels, cycling becomes fast. If you’re already tired, you can rest at the sculpture by artist Joachim Merz "Rheinschlafen" (More info: https://siebengebirgsblick.de/). In Bonn Mehlem, opposite Königswinter, you discover another ferry dock. From here, you turn onto the high plateau of the Voreifel. Now it’s time to push the pedals, the climb is short but certainly challenging with a long ramp. From the half-timbered village of Villiprott onwards, the fast asphalt lines draw you through the shady Kottenforst. Your next landmarks: the highway overpass and Quarzsee. On asphalt - seemingly drawn with a ruler - you continue through "Waldville." At the Roisdorf "Hufebahn," the forest spits you out again and you descend the plateau in a rapid and winding descent. Through fields and open land, you skim through the Bonn suburb and take the ferry at Estermannufer to Mondorf. Through the Sieg meadows, the Sieg cycle path now leads you car-free towards the starting point. Optionally, you cross the Sieg by bridge or the Sieg ferry - one of the oldest single-person reaction ferries in Germany, powered solely by the river current. Sieg Ahoy! Back to the starting point, you follow the Rhine cycle path again, which brings you through Bonn without obstacles.
