The Luther Trail between Neukieritzsch and Leipzig leads directly through the southern Leipzig New Lake District. On paved paths, between huge, beautiful lakes, which were created from former open-cast mines, through forests and floodplains, the hiker reaches Leipzig. This unique lake landscape attracts countless tourists from Germany and abroad every year. The floodplain landscape and forests in and around Leipzig are also known for their impressive flora and fauna. From Lake Cospuden, through Keesschen Park in Markkleeberg, past Leipzig Wildlife Park, along the Elster floodplain to the city center, this is an unusually impressive route in terms of natural landscape. In 1519, the disputation between Luther and his opponent Eck took place in Pleißenburg Castle in Leipzig, which led to Luther's break with Rome and ultimately to the imposition of the imperial ban on him. It was only after the death of Duke George the Bearded that the Reformation could be introduced in Albertine Saxony and thus also in Leipzig.

Directions
The trail starts in Bornaer Straße and then turns right into Alte Poststraße. It then continues along Schulstraße and crosses the Pleiße via Kahnsdorfer Weg. The Luther Trail now follows the Pleißeradweg for a while. It then heads east to Kahnsdorf and from there north between Lake Kahnsdorf and Lake Hain. Leave the Rötha reservoir on your left and continue north along Kreudnitzer Straße into Rötha. Here the path leads along Dürerstraße and Marienstraße to the town hall. Passing the church, the route leads across Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Platz into Volkspark, which you cross heading north. Here you turn left into Böhlener Straße until you reach Bischofsweg, which you follow to the end. Then do not turn into Straße des Aufbaus, but continue straight ahead along the Pleiße. The path crosses this and leads into Waldstraße. From then on, the trail continues north along the Pleiße, from Böhlen also parallel to the railroad tracks through Probstdeuben and Debitzdeuben. In Debitzdeuben, walk along Straße des Friedens until you reach Feldstraße, where you turn left. Continue along the marked route, cross the A38 to the north over a bridge and continue north through a wooded area until you reach the town of Markkleeberg. Here you come out at Zöbigker Hafen and run along the shore of Lake Cospuden, through Kees'schen Park and along the Equipagenweg into the last section of forest before Leipzig. Continue along the Equipagenweg, which runs straight north, until you see the Pleiße river to your left, along the banks of which you continue towards the city. The first allotments can already be seen along the way. At Schleußiger Weg, the Pleiße flows into the Elster flood bed. At Rennbahnweg, you leave the river and turn left through Clara Zetkin Park to the traffic circle on Karl-Tauchnitz-Straße. Follow Karl-Tauchnitz-Straße to the New Town Hall and from there walk across Burgplatz to St. Thomas Church.
