Directions
The highlight of the monastery care route is the Cistercian convent St. Marienstern in Panschwitz-Kuckau.
The starting point is the convent St. Marienstern. The Cistercian convent is one of the few monastic houses that have been continuously used as a convent since their foundation. A visit to the convent garden and the "Lippe" park should not be missed.
The start is at the parking lot on the outskirts of the village.
Follow the Saxon City Route towards Kriepitz, passing the motocross track "Hahneberg" to Kriepitz and then on to Prietitz. On the ridge of a graywacke rock, you will see the Prietitz Schanze, a sickle-shaped embankment which probably originated in the early Slavic period as a protective structure. Leave the village continuing on the Saxon City Route.
You will reach Thonberg and cross the state road Kamenz - Bautzen toward Nebelschütz. This village has been awarded several times in the competition "Our Village has a Future." Take a moment to visit the church or the Wendentor.
Passing the sports field follow the Saxon City Route on the dam of the Große Sandteich pond to Deutschbaselitz.
At the road intersection, leave the Saxon City Route and follow the KRABAT bike path. This leads through the village and along the dam of the Deutschbaselitz Große Teich, one of the largest ponds in Saxony.
Passing the campsite, leave the KRABAT bike path at the Schwarze Elster river and turn right before the bridge onto a field path.
You will reach Milstrich via the Schwarze-Elster bike path. At house number 28, you will find a memorial plaque for the Sorbian composer Bjarnat Krawc.
In the village, take the first street to the right and continue to Piskowitz. At the Jesus statue, turn left and follow the hiking sign Red Dot.
Following this, you reach Rosenthal on the pilgrimage path "Kirchsteig." At the pilgrimage church with the Maria spring, which is said to have healing powers, leave the Red Dot path toward Zerna.
In Zerna, follow the KRABAT bike path to Räckelwitz. About 1 km past Räckelwitz, leave the KRABAT bike path and continue straight through Caseritz. Cross the street.
In Alte Ziegelscheune, follow the KRABAT bike path and the Saxon City Route toward Panschwitz-Kuckau.
In Kuckau, you will find a Slavic fortification built in a natural protective location, known as the "Kuckauer Schanze."
Continue on the Saxon City Route and reach your starting point in Panschwitz-Kuckau.
