The 40-kilometer tour starts at the castle parking lot across from the Moritzburg Tourist Information Office. From here, you can see Moritzburg’s most famous landmark, the Baroque castle. On the other side of Schlossallee lie the stables of the Saxon State Stud, best known for its stallion parades in the fall.
The route follows the signpost bearing the black-and-yellow town coat of arms and the inscription “Moritzburger Ring.” You’ll pass the State Stud and the Swan Pond on your way into the Friedewald. Here you’ll see the Churfürstliche Waldschänke, a historic complex featuring a restaurant and hotel. Next comes the Großteich, where a gap in the old game wall leads to the Fasanenschlösschen. You can explore the late-Baroque palace from all sides—real pheasants can be seen in the adjacent enclosure, and several beer gardens offer a chance to take a break.
The Großteich is also home to the famous Moritzburg Lighthouse, Saxony’s only historic lighthouse. It was originally built as a backdrop for festivities of the Saxon court.
Afterward, you’ll ride along beautiful forest paths through the Frauenteich Nature Reserve, where you can observe birds at a station specially set up for this purpose. After a few kilometers along the forest and the Bauernteich, the district of Steinbach awaits. Here you’ll find the traditional Mistschänke inn,

Passing through the district of Auer, you’ll reach the typical rolling landscape of small hills, stretching across gentle slopes and featuring a picturesque mix of meadows and fields. In the next district, Dippelsdorf, it’s worth making a detour tothe “Rotes Haus”(Red House), the home of the Brücke artists, who made their mark on Expressionist painting here. Today, the house is also used as a nature station by NABU.
Further along the tour, you briefly cross the romantic Lößnitzgrund valley before heading uphill to the highlands, where the villages of Reichenberg and Boxdorf await. The route then heads north back to Moritzburg, where the Moritzburger Rad'l Eck at the edge of the forest invites you to stop for a break from April through October.

Directions
Follow the F-Weg for about 1.5 km through the forest, then turn right onto the X-Weg and head toward Steinbach. Ride through the village on Schlossweg and then turn left onto Dorfstraße until you reach the intersection with Mistschänkenweg. Turn right there and continue straight ahead on the path until the next intersection. Here, turn left onto the O-Weg and ride through the Neuer Anbau district to the intersection with State Road S 81. Cross the S 81 and follow the road “Zum Heidehof”/F-Weg through the forest for about 800 m. At the next fork, turn right onto LW-Weg/Sternweg and continue to the Altenteiche ponds. Take the path between the two ponds and then keep left immediately to reach Auer via W-Weg.
In Auer, ride along Siedlerweg, turn right onto the S 80 (K-Weg), and then immediately left onto Großenhainer Straße; cross the S 81 to reach the Ilschenteich. Turn left again before the pond and cycle through the forest parallel to the S 81 toward Dippelsdorf. Cross under the S 81 via Gabelweg and the St. Ullrich Tunnel, then continue along Großenhainer Straße through the rolling hills to Dippelsdorf.
In Dippelsdorf, follow the signs to the S 81 road bridge by turning left onto Kötzschenbrodaer Straße and you’ll reach Friedewald-Buchholz. Cross the town via Heinrichstraße (right), Am Goldbach (left), Professor-von-Finck-Straße (left), and through the Lößnitzgrund. After about 0.5 km, turn left onto the steeply uphill street “Am Brand.”
The route then continues via Hochlandstraße to Reichenberg, where you turn right onto August-Bebel-Straße and then left onto Gartenstraße to reach Boxdorf.
In Boxdorf, cross the S 179 and ride along Windmühlenweg, Schulstraße (left), and turn left again onto Waldteichstraße. After 1 km, cross the S 81 again and, after another 700 m, turn left onto Alte Dresdner Straße/Flügel HC, which leads back to Moritzburg.
Here, cross the train station and proceed via Bahnhofstraße to Schlossallee. Cross this and continue straight ahead at the “Goldene Brezel” inn onto Roßmarkt. Continue here to the market and, opposite Adams Gasthof, turn right into the castle parking lot to return to the starting point.
