This family-friendly tour leads from fairytale Moritzburg through the scenic Friedewald forest to Weinböhla.

The tour starts at the castle parking lot not far from Moritzburg Information with a view of the magnificent Moritzburg Castle, which is known from the fairytale classic "Three Hazelnuts for Cinderella"!
There is plenty for young and old to discover and experience on the cycle tour: historic buildings and horse-drawn carriages, the "Lößnitzdackel" or the bicycle museum. The climbing forest or the game reserve offer even more opportunities to give free rein to the urge to discover and move.

There are various refreshment stops along the entire route with regional delicacies and refreshments. The tour is 22 kilometers long and is suitable for older children from 8 to 14 years as well as for families with small children in a bike trailer or seat. The paths are well surfaced and mostly flat. There are a few moderate climbs.

Alternatively, the route can also be ridden as a circular tour from the castle parking lot. The approx. 12 km are suitable for smaller children to ride themselves.

This is a suggested tour and not a signposted cycle route. This means that the tour suggestion is only available as a digital track and is not signposted separately on site, but runs mostly on existing cycle routes.

Directions

The starting point of the cycle tour is the castle parking lot in Moritzburg, not far from Moritzburg Information. In addition to a toilet facility, there is also a bicycle repair station with an air pump. In Moritzburg, in addition to the historical sights and the Moritzburg State Stud, there are a number of bakeries and small stores where you can buy provisions for the tour. To begin with, you cycle along quiet streets through Moritzburg, where you can experience the flair of this historic town. After crossing Schlossallee and enjoying another magnificent view towards the castle, the route crosses the tracks of the Lößnitzgrundbahn. This narrow-gauge railroad, also known as the "Lößnitzdackel", is an excellent alternative way to travel from Radebeul or Radeburg. It runs daily all year round and bicycles can easily be carried in the luggage compartment. The "Moritzburger Rad'l-Eck" is located directly on the route in the south of the town and offers refreshments from April to September.

The route continues along small, quiet paths through the extensive Moritzburg pond landscape. The lakes and ponds are home to many animals and, with a bit of luck, you might spot ducks, herons and even deer. The surroundings are idyllic and invite you to take short breaks - ideal for playing a little or having a picnic. A special stop and an exceptional photo opportunity is the famous lighthouse in Moritzburg. The route continues past the Fasanenschlösschen castle along paved paths to the Moritzburg game reserve. Animal lovers will get their money's worth here. Local animals can be admired up close - a fascinating experience for the whole family. Follow the cycle path signs via Neubauernweg to the observation platform at Frauenteich pond, where you can spot a wide variety of birds. Be sure to bring binoculars!

The tour now leads a short distance along Kalkreuther Straße, past the high ropes course with swimming area, which invites you to take an active break. Adventurous young climbers can let off steam here while their parents take a break and enjoy nature.

From here, the route winds its way through the mysterious Friedewald, a magical forest that is pleasantly shady in summer and invites you to explore. A lovely place to go on a discovery tour with the children: What's that rustling in the bushes? And what trees are there? Nature offers many little wonders that delight children, for example the Hohburg. The 120-metre-long tunnel in the middle of the forest was cut through the rock in the 18th century and was used as a passageway for carriages at court festivals.

The tour continues towards Weinböhla through the countryside away from the roads. The destination is the Velocium in Weinböhla with an exciting exhibition for the whole family on the history of the bicycle. Children can try out tricks to their heart's content on the adjacent pump track. In Weinböhla there are all sorts of places to stop for a bite to eat before taking the bus back to Moritzburg or the train in Weinböhla. The playground at the Weinböhla stop is a great place to while away the time until the next train departs.
