- Destination: Station Lößnitzgrundbahn Moritzburg
Moritzburg station is both the start and finish of this circular tour. The "Lößnitzdackel", a historic steam locomotive that can be seen and heard from afar, runs here several times a day.The tour leads out of Moritzburg in a clockwise direction, crosses the old district of Eisenberg and then leads directly onto the first nature trails in the eponymous, slightly hilly landscape of small hills as well as the extensive forest and pond areas. This means that there are always exciting stops along the way, inviting you to observe nature, as many animal species, such as gray herons, cormorants and even white-tailed eagles, are at home here.
Thanks to the slightly elevated landscape, there are always beautiful views of the region with its villages of Bärwalde, Berbisdorf and Bärnsdorf, which you will also pass through on the tour. The church in Bärwalde and the moated castle in Berbisdorf are worth seeing.
In Bärnsdorf, you cross the tracks of the Lößnitzgrundbahn again and discover the Bärnsdorf pond farm, which is responsible for breeding fish in the 22 ponds around Moritzburg. Fish can be purchased in the farm store.
The next tour highlights are right next to the Moritzburg pond - this is where the Saxon court's "Lake Festival" took place at the end of the 18th century, where historical naval battles were re-enacted. Part of the backdrop was the lighthouse, which is still a popular excursion destination today. The Fasanenschlösschen is also worth a visit. There are various restaurants, beer gardens and cafés nearby where you can stop for refreshments.
Just a few meters further on is the Churfürstliche Waldschänke , which houses a restaurant with a historic ambience.
The route then continues through the forest until it returns to the center of Moritzburg. Here you can enjoy the view of the famous Moritzburg Castle, which you should definitely visit. Numerous other restaurants and cafés can also be found here. After a few minutes, the tour returns to the starting point at Moritzburg station on the Lößnitzgrundbahn.
