Embark on a discovery journey along the Neißeland route. On a circular route of approx. 150 km, you will experience the diversity of Upper Silesian Lusatia. Numerous sights along the way and the charming heath-pond landscape make this route a unique experience.
It is recommended to start the route in Niesky. In the centre of the small town lies Zinzendorfplatz with the Church of the Brethren and the Old Pedagogium. On the Frog cycle path towards Rothenburg, you can admire the wooden house settlements, the first prefabricated houses made in Germany from the 1930s. In Horka, the fortified church with the well-preserved 700-year-old defensive wall is worth a visit. Families with children should plan a detour to the Kaltwasser playground or to Culture Island Einsiedel in Zentendorf. Passing by the idyllic watershed in Geheege, continue towards Neiße. Boat tours on the border river are a special experience here. The small town of Rothenburg attracts visitors with charming alleys, beautiful parks, and an aircraft museum. Further north, you reach the unique pond area of Niederspree. The nature reserve is an eldorado for ornithologists. From there, follow the Wolf cycle path to the Erlichthof settlement in Rietschen. The timber-frame house settlement is a living museum village with numerous craftsmen. The Nochten Erratic Boulder Park, an artistically designed landscape park, is also worth seeing. Your tour continues via Reichwalde on the Sea Eagle path. You can cross the Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape Biosphere Reserve along a nature trail. In Thräna, the wildlife and goat park as well as a "Gaudi-Golf" course invite you to rest. Nearby, you can enjoy the panorama from the viewing tower on the Hohe Dubrau. On the way, a detour to Weißenberg to the Old Pepper Cake Workshop, the oldest and only museum-used pepper cake workshop in its original form in Europe, is worth it. In Döbschütz, you can visit the oldest castle in Upper Lusatia. Krobnitz Castle is also impressively presented. Via the small town of Reichenbach on the Via Regia, you reach the smallest low mountain range in Germany, the Königshain Mountains. A nature trail and museum inform about the former granite mining. The Königshain castle complex with "Steinstock", Renaissance castle, and Baroque castle is one of the region's most important sites. The nearly 1000-year-old town of Görlitz offers a unique architectural ensemble with about 4000 listed buildings of all architectural styles. The return trip to Niesky passes by Lake Quitzdorf, an attractive body of water of 750 ha for all water sports enthusiasts and a fishing paradise.
