One of the highlights of this moderate bike route is the ride through the Fürst-Pückler-Park in Bad Muskau, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. But also the Rakotzbrücke in Kromlau Park or the Findlingspark in Nochten are testimonies of successful renaturation of rugged remnants of brown coal surface mining and will remain a long-lasting memory. You will probably also fondly remember the ride through the Niederspree Nature Reserve, where you can watch the flight of sea eagles. The 3D archery course by Neisse-Tour will certainly remain in your memory as well.

Directions

Stage 1

Rietschen – Weißwasser                                                                        40 km

You start at the Erlichthof settlement in Rietschen. Erlichthof is a living museum village with timber-framed houses, located directly on the Wolfsradweg cycle route. On this marked bike path, you ride westward to the Findlingspark in Nochten. The route passes the active Reichwalde open-cast mine, where you can learn about the renaturation of the small Schöps river. Just behind the cooling towers of the power plant near Boxberg, you reach an important spot of this route, the Findlingspark Nochten, which is a testimony to successful renaturation of rugged remains of brown coal surface mining.

You continue on the Hermannsdorfer Radweg to Weißwasser. Before arriving in Weißwasser, you have the opportunity to look into an active brown coal open-cast mine from the observation tower "Schwerer Berg".

You spend the night in Weißwasser.

Stage 2

Weißwasser - Bad Muskau                                                                   38 km

From Weißwasser you follow cycle route no. 2 of the Görlitz district, the “Badeseetour,” to the Halbendorfer See.

It is a local recreation area for Weißwasser residents and a good spot for a first rest.

From the lake, the route continues on cycle route no. 1 of the Görlitz district, “Schleifer Kirchspiel,” via Trebendorf to Schleife, where you can visit the Sorbian Culture Center.

You then take the Froschradweg to the park in Kromlau. You should definitely visit the recently renovated extraordinary Rakotzbrücke in the park before continuing on the Fürst Pückler Radweg through Krauschwitz to the park in Bad Muskau.

The Fürst-Pückler-Park Bad Muskau is a landscape park in Upper Lusatia; with a total area of 830 hectares, it is the largest landscape park in Central Europe in the English style and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. The park is very well suited for exploration by bike.

You spend the night in Bad Muskau

Stage 3

Bad Muskau – Rothenburg                                                                   42 km

Today's stage takes you on the well-known Oder-Neiße cycle route to Rothenburg.

On this continuously paved bike path, you pass several sights.

At the start, you pass the park in Bad Muskau again and reach the village of Sagar after a few kilometers, where there is a handicraft and trade museum to visit.

Historical village churches are located in Pechern and Podrosche along the route.

A short visit to the small Polish town of Przewoz, located directly on the Polish bank of the Neiße, is also worthwhile.

On the outskirts of Rothenburg, the aviation technology museum invites you to visit, or you can try the 3D archery course of Neiße-Tours.

You spend the night in Rothenburg at Pension Cubana

Stage 4

Rothenburg – Niesky – Rietschen                                                        40 km

You follow the road-adjacent bike path to Geheege. At the southern edge of town, you meet the Froschradweg, which you follow to Niesky.

The bike path takes you past several notable sights.

One sight is the watershed south of Geheege, an idyllic resting place in the forest.

In Biehain, you pass the forest lake, which offers a very good bathing opportunity.

Upon arrival in Horka, you should visit the historic fortified church before reaching Niesky.

The small town of Niesky has quite a bit to offer; it is known as the cradle of industrial timber construction, evidenced by about 80 historic, still inhabited, and lovingly maintained timber houses.

The museum at Zinzendorfplatz in Niesky tells the story of the city founded in 1742 by Bohemian religious refugees.

You leave Niesky westward on the Neißeland cycle route and follow it to Sproitz. On the left side, you see the Quitzdorfer reservoir; if you want to take a small detour, a ride over the dam is very worthwhile.

The ride continues on quiet side roads via Horscha to Petershain, where the path runs along local fish farming ponds. In Kosel, a historic village church awaits you, and from there it is not far to Rietschen, the end of the route.

At the Erlichthof, overnight accommodations are available upon request if you want to extend your stay a bit longer.
