An eventful route through fabulous forests, past impressive rock landscapes and over winding paths. The hiking trail promises a true adventure!

The 15-kilometer-long Wittgensteiner Slate Path is marked by the bat symbol, showing the way.

As the first premium hiking trail in the region, the Slate Path was awarded the German Hiking Seal of Quality in 2005 and has since captivated its visitors.

The route leads through four nature reserves and numerous biotopes. Even a genuine bat cave lies along the path. Along the trail, nature takes its freedom and unfolds its full beauty – a wilderness in the best sense.

You will encounter fascinating forest scenes, impressive rock formations, enchanted paths, huge slate heaps, and quarries as well as great views of the Eder valley, the old town of Berleburg, and the slate village Raumland.

The landscape is staged perfectly, and some sections of the route are adventurous and have an alpine character. Discover majestic veteran trees, idyllic waters, and historical traces of slate mining.
