Restaurant Platzhirsch

The inn near Wipshausen already existed when the Braunschweiger Chaussee, today's B 214, was built.

The inn, which was described as a path and inn in the 1844 statistical-topographical hand and word book on the Landdrostei district of Lüneburg, is said to have been built by a Brandenburger as early as 1770.

Formerly a rest stop along the freight route for horses and coachmen between Braunschweig and Celle. The Ohof post station followed to the north, the old customs house in Hülperode to the south and then the so-called "Schranke" in front of the Olper Tower in Braunschweig.

In 1805, the flourishing inn was robbed. A gang of robbers armed with sabres allegedly stole 600 to 700 thalers.

In the post-war period, the pub was known as "Mother Welge" or affectionately as "Auntie Emmi". The real specialty of the house was homemade sour meat and delicious fried potatoes. As people became more mobile, the "Sauerfleischkurve" achieved cult status. The Heidkrug was later continued under the management of daughter Erika.

Arthur Borkmann took over the Heidkrug in April 2022 and has been running the restaurant under the name Platzhirsch ever since. Tradition, freshness, regionality and sustainability await you.
