Trekking camps in the Saar Loop region

Enjoy the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig in the most natural way possible! Our campgrounds offer all adventurers the chance to experience nature at its very best.

From the starting point in Perl to Wadern, nature-loving walkers can spend the night in the forest at our five ‘Nature Campgrounds’ whilst hiking the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig. Just the thing for all adventurous walkers and nature lovers who want to spend the night legally in the woods with a tent and rucksack. The campgrounds combine cosiness with a rugged hiking holiday. On the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig, which has been certified by the German Hiking Institute in Marburg with 68 ‘experience points’ and is thus the highest-rated long-distance hiking trail in Europe, hikers can combine their holiday with unique overnight stays and experience stages 1–6 of the trail in the Saarschleifenland to the full. It is possible to connect via the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig to the trekking camps in the Hunsrück Hochwald National Park. The distance to the ‘Keltenlager’ camp is approximately 32 km.

BOOKING & ORGANISATION

Overnight stays in the wild countryside of the Saarschleifenland are only permitted at these camps. The trekking camps are open from 1 April to 31 October and must be booked online in advance. Once your booking is confirmed, you will receive the GPX coordinates for the relevant location, the code for the toilet blocks, a booking confirmation and the terms of use by email.

Each camp has two tent pitches. One pitch can accommodate up to two people. Only one overnight stay is permitted per camp. The camps are situated away from built-up areas, tucked away in the countryside, and can only be reached on foot. They are not signposted. You must bring your own water and food.

A tent pitch costs €15. The entire campsite can be booked for €30.

The ‘Almglück’ camp is situated near the Hochwald-Alm in Wadrill. It lies above a picturesque stream valley, surrounded by nature. Surrounded by woodland, the site offers the chance to experience the forest at close quarters. A detour to the Hochwald-Alm evokes an Alpine atmosphere right in the heart of the Saarschleifenland.
