In an (almost) unique process in the history of the former GDR, it escaped the lignite mining that was devouring villages and landscapes and found a new place as a parish church in Königshufen. The building, which was transferred from the roadside village of the Neisse meadows south of the city to the new development area of Görlitz-Nord, is rather unspectacular on the outside and would hardly have justified such an expense. The deciding factor was the extremely valuable interior of the 18th century, especially the sculptural work of Caspar Gottlob von Rodewitz, from whose workshop the pulpit altar, confessional, baptismal angel and important details of the other furnishings originate.
Restorers and craftsmen achieved an outstanding feat in the transfer of the magnificent rococo painting of the vaults, the installation of the boxes, galleries, the organ and the church pews. On 1 June, the second day of Pentecost 1998, 10 years after the final dedication in Deutsch-Ossig, the church in Görlitz-Königshufen could be handed over to a Protestant congregation, which had its home for many years in a disused circus wagon.
