Delicatessen Leipzig

Theatre
The delicatessen in the heart of Leipzig's trendy Karli - Karl-Liebknecht-Straße district is one of the culturally alternative hotspots in the south of Leipzig.
Founded in 1853 as a brewery, today's delicatessen functioned as a production facility for canned fruit and vegetables from 1921. In order to meet the demand for larger theaters in the south of Leipzig at the time, a society house with adjoining restaurants, the Gildensaal and a cellar, which was used as a cabaret from the 1930s onwards, was built on the site between Braustraße and today's Karl-Liebnecht-Straße. From 1940, the Gildensaal became a permanent venue for the destroyed Apollo cinema. In 1945, the entire site was badly damaged and large parts of it burnt out.

After the Second World War, catering operations were provisionally resumed in the destroyed part of the site, while canning production got back on track in the intact part of the factory. Between 1952 and 1992, the site was used exclusively for the production of preserves, jams, juices and fruit wines.

In the following years, various stores moved into the delicatessen area. From 2007, parts were renovated and reconstructed so that events and flea markets now regularly take place at the delicatessen. In the summer months, the summer cinema takes place at Feinkost.

During the summer months, the flea markets at Feinkost are teeming with bargain hunters. In the summer theater and cinema, Feinkost presents a colorful bouquet of children's and adult performances.
