The Leipzig Opera stands for more than 300 years of urban opera tradition and is the venue for famous soloists, choirs and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.

The Leipzig Opera - consisting of opera, musical comedy and the Leipzig Ballet - is the third oldest civic music theater stage in Europe. Its outstanding international reputation is characterized by the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, important soloists, an award-winning choir and the Leipzig Ballet.

The opera was born as early as 1693, making it the second oldest German music stage after Hamburg. The current building on Augustusplatz was opened in 1960 and today seats over 1,270 spectators for one of the numerous performances. The Leipzig Music Trail leads directly past the opera house and the Leipzig Jazz Days are also held here every year. The musicals and operettas in the program have been performed for more than 40 years in the Musikalische Komödie, in the historic Haus Dreilinden in the west of Leipzig. With its own ensemble of soloists, choir, ballet and versatile orchestra, the Musikalische Komödie is a professional specialist theater for the operetta and musical genres.

The podcast "Willkommen in Leipzig" provides a look behind the scenes of Oper Leipzig. Guests include ballet dancer Natasa Dudar, singer Karin Lovelius, pianist Ugo D'Orazio and artistic director and general music director of the opera Ulf Schirmer, who provide exciting insights.

Admission: 10% reduction for Leipzig Card holders for all performances and seating groups by Leipzig Opera at Leipzig Opera House and Musikalische Komödie where reductions are permitted.

Information on reduced prices: LEIPZIG CARD/ LEIPZIG REGIO CARD users receive a discount of 10% of the box office price in all performances and seating groups of Oper Leipzig in the Opera House and in the Musikalische Komödie that are eligible for discounts (except premieres, New Year's Eve events and events with special prices). Directions & Parking facilities

By public transport: The nearest stop is Leipzig, Augustusplatz (streetcar lines 4, 7, 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 32). Alternatively, travel to Leipzig Central Station (approx. 5 minutes on foot).
The opera ticket is also valid as a ticket for the Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) in zone 110.

By car: Use the surrounding parking garages in the city center, such as Q-Park Augustusplatz, Q-Park The Post and Parkhaus Neumarkt.
