Grafentafel

Geotope
Was there really a knightly banquet held here?
Right between Hagen a.T.W. and Lienen, in the heart of the Teutoburg Forest, you’ll come across this ancient relic. The Grafentafel is a large sandstone rock exposed by erosion, around which several myths have grown.

According to one legend, it is a “flat rock on which the counts [of Tecklenburg] used to have breakfast with 12 men during their hunts.” (Note on a survey map from 1841)

Whether that’s true, however, is rather questionable. And today, it certainly can’t be called “flat” anymore...
