"A movie theater like in the movies". A visit to this movie theater is a little trip back in time. The original interior from 1954 transports the audience back to the golden age of cinema, when moving images and films were only available here, in a plush, slightly vaudeville-like setting. The first film was shown here in February 1919, the first sound film in 1931 and the first color film in 1943. In 1954, Hans Fricke carried out a major renovation. The auditorium was extended to 450 seats and the foyer was added. The projection machines and the screen were equipped for Cinemascope films. Television and video meant that the cinema auditorium was reduced to 165 seats in 1993. Since March 2001, the cinema has been run by KulturKreis Gronau e.V.. They were the first to equip it with a cabaret stage. In the following years, the electrics, the projection technology and the interior were carefully renovated. As a result, today a fairly up-to-date cinema program is offered in the historical ambience with 126 seats. There are also film series and the occasional cabaret show.
You can view the current program at www.kulturkreisgronau.de. Over the years, our cinema itself has been the backdrop for various film productions on several occasions.
