The name Middoge is probably correctly interpreted as "middle island" and dates back to a time when the coastline ran further south. As dykes were built further and further north, fertile farmland was gradually gained and the former island became an elevated place within a secure field. The brick building stands on the remains of an old dyke, a high embankment that also serves as a cemetery, and the different formats of the bricks tell the story of its construction:
The central part of the northern and southern long wall consists of the remains of the medieval building, probably dating from the end of the 15th century, with the northern and southern portals now bricked up. The eastern and western ends of the church were rebuilt in 1912.
The church is currently not open. For more information, please contact the church office.
