South of Bremen (river kilometer 355.15, on the left/western bank of the Weser), in the Dreye district of the municipality of Weyhe, lies the former gravel pit known as “Wieltsee.” After dredging operations were completed, a natural harbor was created by cutting a channel to the Weser. In 1979, the first club dock facility was put into operation here. The Wieltsee Marina, along with other clubs and a yacht service, followed. The municipality of Weyhe has entrusted the Wieltsee Marina to an operator who, for over 30 years, has not only provided the boatsand yacht owners with its full range of services and accessories but has also established an impressive fleet of Galeon yachts and Galia sport boats in the marina.
Under his leadership, the buildings and facilities were significantly modernized, a floating restaurant was developed, and the recreational facilities—such as the barbecue area and boat launch—were redesigned. The berths can be used year-round. Instead of long, monotonous rows of docks, various sections were created through a clever redesign. The guest area was relocated near the restaurant to minimize walking distances. Dedicated areas and launch sites for sailors will be created with renovated side jetties; anglers have already been given their own adjacent mini-harbor, and the remaining jetty facilities have been equipped with additional finger jetties for side access to the boats.
Thanks to years of maintenance by the water sports clubs, the former quarry lake has been transformed into a scenically attractive area. With no current or tidal range, the “Wieltsee” is considered an ideal spot for beginner sailors. Many boaters use the sheltered moorings directly on the Weser as a stopover on their way to the North Sea or upstream on the Weser toward the Aller. The lake’s water depth reaches over 30 meters. For sailors with upright masts, this charming sailing area is bounded by the Uesener Bridge to the east (approximately 14 km away) and the Dreyer Railroad Bridge to the west.
With motorboats or sailboats with masts laid down, everything from the North Sea to the Aller River can be reached (see note on the Weser Lock). To reach the harbor from the Weser, head toward the entrance to Lake Wielt just below the red buoy at kilometer marker 355.15. Caution may be advised here for deep-draft vessels. The entrance is generally about 2.2 m deep, but the depth may be slightly less after winter flooding due to silting. The water depth at the dock is sufficient throughout. Guests are always welcome at Marina Wieltsee—whether just moored at the guest dock for a few hours or for a longer vacation cruise. Refreshments are provided in style at the floating marina restaurant, which, as an all-around dining establishment, is also open to other visitors to Lake Wieltsee.
Marina Wieltsee offers guest berths with electricity and water at the dock, as well as restroom facilities. In addition, there are four club facilities with guest berths, electricity and water at the dock, and restroom facilities.
