St Nicholas‘s Village Church in Schüptitz near Weida

Church
The village of Schüptitz has a special sacred architecture feature in the shape of its tower, which can be seen from far away.
The protruding upper tower storey actually consists of half-timbered structures with St Andrew’s crosses and dates back to the 18th century. The Romanesque apse is definitely old.

A Gothic carved altar with Mary and four figures of saints and a so-called “Tetzel box” have been preserved inside the building. It was perhaps used to collect money from the sale of indulgences and its name relates to the Dominican preacher, Johann Tetzel (about 1460-1519) from Pirna (Saxony).
