From Freital's future city center at the foot of the distinctive Windberg, the route goes over its plateau into the Poisental and then back via the Raschelberg.

The Windberg is Freital's distinctive "local mountain." Directly at its foot, the new center of the city founded about a hundred years ago from industrial villages is supposed to be developed in the next few years. From there, we cross the Windberg and hike past remnants of the former hard coal mining back down into the Poisental. On the other side, the route leads to the Stone Table in the Poisenwald and on to the Raschelberg before returning to the city and our starting point.

Directions

Our route begins and ends at the bus station Freital on Hüttenstraße. The S-Bahnhof Freital-Deuben is located nearby, as is a P+R car park. Here begins the hiking trail "Green Dot" to the Windberg, which is very well signposted. On the way to and across Leßkestraße, we pass through the area where Freital's city center is planned to develop in the coming years. After crossing the Weißeritz, we ascend the Windberg via Jägersteig and later Niederhäslicher Weg. After about 2 kilometers, we see a sandstone wall that was once part of a bridge for railway tracks when hard coal was mined here in the 19th century.

Those who want to make a detour to the König Albert Monument, from where you get a magnificent view over all of Freital, would need to continue following the "Green Dot" from here. However, we turn right before the former bridge and follow the marking "Green Line" or No. 5. After crossing the busy Kohlenstraße, we walk a few kilometers on an old railway track. This formerly 13 km long section of the Windbergbahn (also called the Saxon Semmering Railway) between Freital and Possendorf was built in 1856 for the transport of hard coal from the Windberg area. The upper part of the line was closed in 1951 and now serves as a cycling and hiking trail. The Kleinnaundorfer station is the starting point each year for a regional soapbox derby. Nearby is the inn "Schatzalm."

After a few meters, we continue right on the "Green Line" into the Poisental, cross a main road, and arrive on the other valley side at the Stone Table. This was erected in 1862 as a hunting resting place for the King of Saxony. Still following the "Green Line" and No. 5, there is a nice view of the Windberg to the right. On the left, we pass below the Wachtelberg, which is popular as a ski slope in winter when there is snow. In Niederhäslich, we leave the "Green Line" and follow No. 5, first along Niederhäslicher Straße, then Am Stieglitzberg through the residential area at the Raschelberg. Here there is the opportunity to refresh yourself at the excursion restaurant "Zum Gründ'l." When we reach Poisentalstraße, we follow it to the left about 500 meters to the pedestrian crossing and turn right into a bike/pedestrian path. At Leßkestraße, our circular route closes, and we walk back to the bus station.
