Bikepacking - sporty through the Osnabrück region

For those who want to experience the Osnabrück region in this intense way and are looking for a small adventure, this sporty bikepacking route is ideal: The approximately 250-kilometer digital route, which starts at Osnabrück main station, mainly follows paved paths. The challenge lies mainly in the daily distance of around 80 kilometers to be covered. Additionally, crossing the Teutoburg Forest involves a total of about 1,300 meters of elevation gain.

Our three stage suggestions are perfect for a long weekend. Furthermore, the tour is designed so that in the evenings the tent can be pitched in a cozy spot at a farm or at a campsite by a lake. However, prior inquiry or reservation is definitely recommended!

The first stage mostly follows the Hase River to Bippen in the north of the Osnabrück region. On the second day, the route leads past impressive monasteries through Quakenbrück to Kronensee in Ostercappeln-Schwagstorf. The final stage is the king stage, with steep climbs through the Teutoburg Forest over Bad Essen and Bad Iburg to Osnabrück. Those interested can finish with a leisurely stroll through the old town.

More information about the route can be found here on our Komoot profile.
Note: Unlike other routes in the Osnabrück region, this tour is not marked with a logo. However, the route is available as a free GPX file download.

If you decide on other overnight locations during your tour, please pitch your tent only at campsites, holiday farms, or similar places for nature conservation reasons. We promise that even here, we have wonderful spots to offer.

What is bikepacking?

Bikepacking is a fantastic way to enjoy the freedom on two wheels. For several days, equipped with minimalist camping gear, you ride through nature on a sporty and off-road capable bike. The lighter the bike, the more enjoyable the ride. Unlike classic bicycle touring with a rack and six bags, bikepacking keeps the mountain or gravel bike as compact and off-road capable as possible. The weight is centrally distributed on the frame with various bag systems.

As a bikepacking beginner, it is best to start with a smaller tour. A relaxed day trip with an overnight stay in a tent is ideal for this. For example, you can test whether the bike is packed sensibly. With the route length, terrain, and accommodation options, our bikepacking tour through the Osnabrück region offers optimal conditions especially for bikepacking beginners.

Good preparation is everything, but when it comes to luggage, the motto is "keep it simple." Below we have compiled a small packing list for a multi-day tour with outdoor overnight stays:
