By bike from Stadt Wehlen to the Bastei

From the train station in Stadt Wehlen, our route first takes us down to the Elbe to take the ferry across. On the market square, we turn right behind the town hall and head uphill towards Dorf Wehlen, where we turn right onto the national park route. Here we continue steadily uphill through the rocky landscape towards the Bastei. Once at the top, we follow the Bastei road to the Bastei Hotel, where we lock up our bikes to get to the Bastei Bridge and the viewpoints.

If you wish, you can of course cycle back the same way as on the outward journey. After plenty of time for oohs and ahhs at the rock formations, we head back downhill to the Elbe via Lohmen and Dorf Wehlen. Before doing so, we make a detour to the Fiedler dairy farm to pick up some fresh milk and cheese. Once we arrive in Stadt Wehlen, we can either take the train back to the station or extend our tour along the Elbe cycle path.

Stop at the Fiedler dairy farm on the way back: you can buy home-made cheese, fresh milk and other dairy products from two vending machines. Petting calves included.
