The Wermsdorfer Forest, with its numerous lakes and ponds, is one of the most popular hiking and excursion areas. Even today, it provides the necessary relaxation and recreation.

The hiker embarks on an idyllic countryside trip on their route to the Collm. Even the Saxon electors highly valued this area.

The hiking route passes through varied forest scenery in the Wermsdorfer Forest, known for its hunts. At the foot of the mountain in the village of Collm, the 1,000-year-old lime tree in the Collm cemetery can be admired. It is Saxony's oldest lime tree, proudly 18 meters tall with a trunk circumference of 11 meters. With its 314 meters above sea level, the Collm is the highest elevation in the region and visible from afar. From the 18-meter-high freely accessible Albert Tower, the hiker enjoys a magnificent panoramic view over northern Saxony. On the way back to Wermsdorf, the observatory, Eselsbrunnen, and Silbersee/Carlsteich are passed. Back in Wermsdorf, a visit to the largest hunting castle complex in Europe, Hubertusburg, should definitely be included.

The starting point for the hike is Hirschplatz, known as the central public transport stop in Wermsdorf. From there, you turn into Friedhofstraße. Along the way, past the hiking car park and the "Tiefen Teich" (Deep Pond), you reach the Collmer footpath directly. This path leads into the Wermsdorfer Forest, known for its hunts. After reaching the forest edge, the "Trift" path runs along the foot of the Collm to the hiking car park at the entrance of the village of Collm. Before re-entering the Wermsdorfer Forest, a detour to the village center is recommended to visit the church and Saxony's oldest lime tree in the cemetery, which in 2022 was awarded the title "National Heritage Tree." The church in Collm, a Romanesque hall church, houses the oldest Saxon bell ensemble from the 13th century in its tower. To appreciate the beauty of Saxony's oldest mountain, a climb to the Collm is recommended. From the 18-meter-high Albert Tower, accessible from April to October, you can enjoy the view of the Dahlener Heide, the Wermsdorfer Forest, and the Leipzig Basin. On the viewing platform, there is a granite column of the "Nagel triangulation" from 1865. After descending, the hiking trail continues to the observatory, where display boards inform about current geophysical events. The path continues to Eselsbrunnen and the Carlsteich (Silbersee), where benches invite you to rest. After a break, the route goes via Butterweg back to the Collmer footpath and back to Wermsdorf. Upon return to Wermsdorf, a visit to the largest Baroque hunting castle complex in Europe, Hubertusburg Palace, is highly recommended.
