The varied excursion or half-day route leads once around the Bautzen reservoir, which was built in the 1970s. Two villages lie at its bottom. From the city out to the northeast end of the dam, both the circular route and the Spree cycle path are signposted. Good stops are offered at the beach promenade. Sports enthusiasts can even try the high ropes course. Near Gottlobsberg, there is a picnic area that invites you to enjoy the view over the lake. You can learn interesting facts about the reservoir on the educational trail on the small dam. Anyone who loves water and beautiful nature will find a lot to see on this route.
Geocachers follow the route "With the Aluminium Cucumber around Bautzen's reservoir"! There are about 40 caches to discover here!

Directions
We start at the northern old town edge "Vor dem Gerbertor", cycle further into Spreegasse, follow the signposted reservoir circular route (also here the Spree cycle path), pass the Frankfurt, the Talstraße, reach the Bautzen prison (commonly called Yellow Misery). We head towards the new housing estate Gesundbrunnen, which we cycle through quickly. We pay attention to the symbols of the Spree cycle path (spring, mountain, and Brandenburg Gate) as well as the reservoir circular route (blue ellipse in a yellow rectangle).
The path leads past the campsite near the beach further east, then turns left to reach the densely overgrown eastern shore of the reservoir. From Burker Straße, you can reach the small dam on the right if the gate is open; otherwise, you turn off one path later and stay on the Spree cycle path route. After the small dam, on the left are the buildings of the reservoir administration, near which you will also find the picnic area at Gottlobsberg. A small footpath leads up to the monument hill, where, besides a view of Niedergurig, there are monuments for Luther and the fallen of the First World War.
After the small dam, always keeping slightly to the left, the path leads below the large dam towards Quatitz, turns left in the village. Soon there is another rest and picnic area in the green! The path section up to the Bautzen district of Teichnitz follows, which can be reached via the Stauseestraße.
After Teichnitz, under the motorway, you soon turn left after the first houses, where from the west the "Saxon Cities Route" cycle path with the red "S" joins. We cycle through the rather narrow Seidau and return to our starting point at the Hammer Mill below the Nicolaikirch ruins. Alternatively, we turn more left through the "Frankfurt" to Spreegasse, which we already know from the start.
