The “Great Heritage” is reflected in the unique landscape, but also in the architecture and life of the region. Four different UNESCO titles have been awarded to the Lusatian land – world-class – including World Heritage, Geopark, Biosphere Reserves, and Intangible Heritage. The World Heritage site Muskauer Park/ Park Mużakowski, the Muskauer Faltenbogen Geopark/ Łuk Mużakowa, the Biosphere Reserve Oberlausitzer Heath and Pond Landscape, as well as the intangible heritage of the blue print are considered especially worth protecting by UNESCO.
UNESCO-recognized cultural and natural heritage sites, man-made cultural landscapes, areas shaped by open-cast mining, strong awareness of tradition – this extraordinary mix makes Lusatia one of the most exciting regions in the heart of Europe.

Directions
Start your route in Bautzen, the city of 1000 towers. Follow the Twin Cycle Route out of the city, past the Bautzen reservoir to the HOUSE OF A THOUSAND PONDS. The route leads through the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Oberlausitzer Heath and Pond Landscape, past many ponds, through forests and heathlands. Visit the experience exhibition or join a guided tour.
Continue past the Bärwalder See to Schleife, where you can visit the Sorbian Cultural Center. A permanent exhibition shows the extensive collection of traditional costumes from Schleife, takes you into the Sorbian world of legends, and illustrates Sorbian Easter egg decorating techniques.
After visiting the cultural center, continue towards Kromlau. Here you can visit the Rhododendron Park Kromlau. In the park, you can see a large collection of rhododendrons and azaleas, as well as the famous Rakotz Bridge.
Before heading to Bad Muskau, it is worth taking a detour to Weißwasser. At the Glass Museum, you can learn about the industrial cultural heritage.
Continue to Bad Muskau and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Muskauer Park. The entire park can be excellently explored by bicycle.
Then travel from Bad Muskau to the Old Babina Mine. The Babina mine, located close to the town of Łęknica, is accessible via a geotourism path that passes through the area of former deep and open-cast mines. From 1920 to 1973, lignite and ceramic clay were mined here on an industrial scale. Today, the mines are filled with water, transforming the area into a unique post-mining landscape. On the way along the geo-path, you will also learn about the formation history of the UNESCO Global Geopark Muskauer Faltenbogen/ Łuk Mużakowa.
