Dhünnweg (Dhünn Trail)

The Dhünn is the largest tributary of the Wupper, has its source in the Bergisches Land region and flows into the Rhine near Leverkusen together with the Wupper. The Dhünnweg runs from Leverkusen upstream along the beautiful little river Dhünn to the Große Dhünn-Talsperre.

After leaving the Neulandpark, you cycle along the "Alleedhünn" past the Stadtpark and the BayArena to the Dhünnpark landscape with Morsbroich Palace at its center.
Continuing along the Dhünn and through the center of Leverkusen-Schlebusch, you leave the urban area in the direction of Odenthal past the former Osenau weir. Cycle upstream past the parish church of St. Pankratius and see Strauweiler Castle in the distance.

Before you reach the monastery landscape of Altenberg, the remains of the ancestral castle of the Counts of Berg and thus the cradle of the Bergisches Land lie somewhat hidden at the foot of the Bülsberg. In Altenberg, visit the cathedral with the largest stained glass window north of the Alps or the German Fairytale Forest and stop off at one of the many restaurants and cafés.

The route continues along the Dhünn to Schöllerhof. Here you "experience" the beautiful Helenental valley with its traces of the former powder mills, past the Maria in der Aue conference hotel and restaurant, until you reach the dam wall of the Große Dhünntalsperre. Here you can enjoy the view of the second largest drinking water reservoir in Germany and the surrounding nature reserve.
