Great views and an area where time seems to have stood still await us on the Dragon bike route.

Syrau, not far from Plauen, has a picture-book windmill, a charming baroque church, and a Dragon Cave whose stalactites are fascinating. The magnificent cave panorama provides a unique backdrop for our impressive laser show (May-October). In the legend of the Syrau Dragon, understandably a miller’s apprentice once defeated the dragon. On the circular route starting at the cave, one can imagine why so many legendary figures populate the Vogtland: between forests and fields, time seems to have stood still. The places bear names like Fröbersgrün, Reiboldsruh, and Mehltheuer – home to the smallest musical instrument museum in the world. The Wettinhöhe could compete for the most beautiful view in the world: it offers a view to the Fichtelgebirge ridge. A break can be taken in Bad Linda with its healing springs in Eckardtspark or the landscape park of Leubnitz Castle. Back in Syrau, absinthe production in the Dragon Castle beckons!

Directions

You can start the route at Mehltheuer train station or directly at the Dragon Cave. We recommend visiting the Dragon Cave first and then starting the route. This way, on the route, you can better imagine how the dragon Justus shaped the landscape around Syrau. Head northwest on Ernst-Thälmann-Straße and, after a few meters, turn right onto Bahnhofstraße. Pass the station, cross the railway crossing and continue straight on Fröbersgrüner Straße. About 500 meters after the crossing, on the right side, is the Syrau Windmill, which is worth a visit, along with the Dragon Castle. Continue to Fröbersgrün and then turn left onto L2342. Pass through Arnsgrün to Wolfshain. Here turn left towards Ebersgrün. Continue straight to Pausa and, via Paul-Scharf-Straße through the town, reach Grüne Wiese street, which turns right. In Pausa, visit the globe with the earth axis on the town hall. On Grüne Wiese street, turn left across the Weida and continue straight onto Kutschweg to Bad Linda. About 500 meters after the village, turn left to Linda. Pass the village pond, then keep right, left, right through the village towards Ranspach. Through Ranspach, cross B 282 via Waldfrieden to Schönberg. Along Waldfriedener Straße through the village, then turn left over the railway tracks onto Rodaer Straße. Follow this street straight past Pulverhaus, across Kornbach to Rodau. In the village, keep left, pass the village pond, then continue straight towards Hahnmühle and past the outdoor pool. Follow the road past Weißmühle to Leubnitz. Pass through the village on the main street but consider a visit to Leubnitz Castle and its adjoining park. Continue on the road to reach Fasendorfer pond and the village nearby. Heading towards Mehltheuer, pass the junction to the train station, then shortly before the federal road, turn right onto Hohe Straße. Follow this straight, cross a forest area past Schneckengrün until you reach Plauener Straße. Keep left and, after about 500 meters, turn left again onto Schneckengrüner Straße, continuing straight toward Kauschwitz. In the village, turn left onto Syrauer Straße, continuing straight to Syrau, then cross B282 to return to the starting point.
