Not far from the state capital hides one of the most idyllic valleys in the Saarbrücken region, commonly known as Ensheimer Gelösch.

On the valley floor, the Woogbach flows through the lush green of the mixed forest. Without any apparent reason or necessity for water supply, residents of the surrounding villages built and artistically designed 13 fountains in this valley between 1840 and 1980. Today, the water providers are being restored and maintained by a local association. The remarkable thing is that none of these fountains ever had to fulfill a vital function. They were built by the locals exclusively out of love for nature and in homage to the water of the Woogbach.
