The bike route connects the three Greiz castles with the famous Göltzschtal Bridge and leads through the Greiz-Werdauer Forest recreation area.

The city of Greiz with its two castles offers a tremendous variety of tourist attractions worth visiting. The Upper Castle towers high above the city, and in the valley, there is the beautiful Greiz Park with the Summer Palace and the Lower Castle. Interesting museums offer guests plenty of information about the city’s history, the land and people, and traditional crafts. Additionally, a walk through the city with its many villas, residential, and commercial buildings is worthwhile.

Embark on a journey of discovery through the city’s cultural and historical heritage in the former residential city, enjoy wonderful impressions of the beautiful landscape in Vogtland, and experience the Thuringian-Vogtland mountainous and hilly region with forests, meadows, and valleys at their best. Many discoveries will remain memorable on this route.

The route runs over short, heavily trafficked sections, quiet streets, and well-passable forest paths.

Directions

The starting point is the train station in Greiz. From the station, follow the signposts and ride over Poststraße - Bruno-Bergner-Straße – Schlossbrücke to Dr.-Rathenau-Platz. From here continue towards Neumühle via Hohe Gasse – Friedhofstraße – Leonhardtstraße. At the "Anna Seghers" senior residence, turn right onto the forest path to Waldhaus (Krümmetal). From here, you pass through the Greiz-Werdauer Forest, a landscape protection area and one of the largest contiguous forest areas in eastern Thuringia. At the entrance to Waldhaus, keep right (one-way street) and continue to Töpferhof. Here turn right towards Greiz/Mohlsdorf - after 1 km turn left towards the state border – Weidmannsruh – Fürstenstuhl – Fichtenreuth and continue straight over Werdauer Straße to Reuth. In the town center turn right to Gottesgrün. In Gottesgrün turn left towards Kahmer. In Kahmer go uphill and then straight ahead along B 94 to Reinsdorf. Turning left at the church is worth a detour to the Göltzschtal Bridge (detour approx. 5 km). The Göltzschtal Bridge is still the largest brick bridge in the world. The circular route runs without the detour at the church in Reinsdorf, turning right over Irchwitz – Hainberg – Schlossbrücke – Carolinenstraße - Bahnhofstraße back to the starting point, train station Greiz.

South of Reinsdorf - after a left turn - there is a rest area offering a beautiful photo opportunity of the Göltzschtal Bridge.
