A paradise for water enthusiasts has emerged in the last decade as a result of the renaturation of an open-cast mining landscape directly on the southern city border of Görlitz. The almost 1,000-hectare and 72-meter deep Berzdorf Lake is not only the fifth largest lake in Saxony but also one of the most popular.
Water sports enthusiasts such as surfers, sailors, and stand-up paddlers can fully indulge their passion at Berzdorf Lake. Simply swimming is, of course, also possible – you can dive into the crystal-clear and refreshing lake water from several beach areas.
And in winter, you can be enchanted by the wintry flair of the lake and its landscape.

Directions
You start the route in Hagenwerder at the train station and walk past the car dealership and the ranch by the lake towards the lake. At the lake, turn left and walk along the lake.
You hike around the peninsula, where there is a large enclosed area with goats. Then you reach the harbor. Here you can enjoy the view and walk to further attractive offers, such as the bucket-wheel excavator 1452, which you can visit. Follow the path further along the lake towards the Blue Lagoon. On the way there, you pass the Water Castle Tauchritz, which is very suitable for a photo stop.
The Blue Lagoon is suitable for a longer break. Here you can swim or just relax and enjoy a delicious ice cream. The children can play on the playground.
The hike continues along the shore of the lake through the nature reserve (landslide P) to the northeast beach. Here you will find another beautiful sandy beach, a playground, and various culinary offerings. From here you continue hiking towards Hagenwerder to your starting point.
There is the possibility to shorten the route. You can take bus line E from the stops Tauchritz, Blue Lagoon, or Northeast Beach back to the station in Hagenwerder or to Görlitz. More information is available at: https://www.goerlitztakt.de/de/
