Loffenau - Great Loffenau Circuit (Premium Hiking Trail)

The start and finish point is at the Kurpark. To set the mood, the viewpoint "Bergle" offers hikers a great view of the half-timbered village as well as the local mountain, the Teufelsmühle. After a short detour to the Laufbach Waterfalls, the path slowly ascends, passing the Sägmühlteich pond to the Sonnenlaube, then continuing over the Reiterweg to the Old Sports Ground with barbecue area and pavilion. We then follow the path uphill to the Käppele and the Rißwasen, always accompanied by beautiful views of Loffenau and the ridge of the Teufelsmühle. The ascent to the "Große Loch" with its Teufelskammern is particularly demanding. Upon reaching the Teufelsmühle, you are directly rewarded after the hard climb with a sensational 360-degree view over the forests and Murgtal valley, on clear days even to the Vosges and the Palatinate Forest. In suitable wind conditions, paragliding flight operations can be observed at the launch site. Those who are not yet tired of the great view at the Teufelsmühle can pause once more at the Michelsrankhütte below the Teufelsmühle and enjoy the view. The zigzag path and the following forest trail then lead downhill again toward the valley, through the fairy-tale forest of the forest kindergarten and past the experimental and teaching garden of the fruit and horticultural association. The final section runs through a wonderful meadow path through the Igelbachtal with its numerous traditional orchards, before you reach the starting point "Kurpark" again.

The Great Loffenau Circuit was first certified as a "Premium Hiking Trail" by the German Hiking Institute e.V. in October 2023. It thus belongs to the top class of German hiking trails. The certification result showed that the circular hiking trail fully meets the strict criteria of the German Hiking Institute and achieved a very good score of 69 experience points. The path especially scored high in signage, and the natural surroundings are also very positively rated.
